Polishing Powder

More About: Polishing Powders

Our Polishing Powders are in many cases the same metal granules used as pigments for our paint. Using these powders as polishing compound on gloss painted surfaces allows you the modeler to create realistic natural metal finishes. Or to create varying tonal effects on surfaces painted with NMF colors such as those achieved by using either our SnJ Spray Metal or Talon Series NMF Paints.

Regardless what you model these powders can be used to achieve various sheen and tonal effects on natural metal finishes or to weather and stain surfaces. These powders have been used effectively by model railroaders, armor, aircraft, ship, figure and car modelers.

Our Polishing Powders are shipped in plastic jars with metal lids. They are filled by weight not volume.

IMPORTANT: A little powder goes a long ways. It is fine like talc, so you’ll need to take precautions not to inhale it and not get carried away using more than necessary to avoid waste.

You can remove access powder residue with a soft cloth dampened with water or wash the model under running water. Doing so should not effect the shine achieved.

Application of the powders can be with any of the following…a Q-Tip, soft cloth or foam makeup applicator or shoe polish applicator. The foam applicator options gives one the best control of the powder and doesn’t scratch the painted surface.
