2009 Highlights

December 2009 Hightlights

The December meeting was down as far as attendance but it still yielded some great models!

November 2009 Highlights

Definitely a bit of crispness is the air as we gathered this month. Fortunately just cool, though some might say cold, temperatures along with a brisk wind which didn’t deter us from gathering. Last year at this time there was snow on the ground!

Some of the unique models this month were, Bruce’s version of a kitbashed Klingon Bird of Prey, Roger’s excellent brass works, Tom A’s Sherman, and Tom D’s P-40. Bruce also brought in two pieces of armor and a Yak fighter. The automotive category was represented by Troy, Bob and Al. I brought along my WIP F-100C as well as a Grex airbrush for the guys to check out.

We hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. We’ll see you next month!

October 2009 Hightlights

troynbobaisleBefore our meetings many of us gather at a local eatery…Friar Tucks which is just a few minutes away from the HobbyTown USA where we meet. Once at the store we spend some time in aisles checking out the latest releases as well as purchase any needed supplies. For some, this is the only opportunity to visit an area hobby shop.

Then it is upstairs to the large meeting room where we talk plastic!

August 2009 Highlights

My apologies for getting this update posted up so late.

alsfordbruceswwiarmOur August meeting had a few of our regulars missing. Either they were already headed to the Nationals, were recouping from illness or just enjoying summer! Though we were low in attendance there was no shortage of quality models.

Every category was covered which shows that scale modeling crosses several subjects and interests. Scale modeling is why we gather and we learn from each other, that is why our club has been so successful all these years.

gliderbrucesrroaddavesSummer is almost over, but that only means that our attention will turn back from outdoor activities and back towards our modeling projects.

See ya in September!

July 2009tomtalonednport1 Highlights

bwartillery1Not our biggest attendance turnout but everyone that did was well fed thanks to everyone bringing a contribution to the potluck. The weather was rainy so our outdoor “cookout” was moved indoors. Notable main entree dishes were Bob’s famous baked beans and his first attempt at pulled pork plus Roger’s wife who makes some fantastic chicken enchiladas. We ate so much we hardly touched the desserts!

Just about every category of modeling was represented…planes, cars, armor, figures and even trains. Roger’s goal is to get everyone of use to start building model railroads…for some he’ll have a tough battle but for many we’re ready!

blindrafflebobcarTom Schry donated a bunch of kits which were all individually wrapped in newspaper. They were used in a blind raffle type of game, we all had fun and ended up with some nice kits from Tom’s stash…one way of thinning the pile.

June 2009 Highlights

We had a small turn out of members to this months meeting…only seven. This did not however lessen the quality of the models, conversations or fun. Here are some of what was on the table for show-n-tell.

May 2009 Highlights

Hard to believe that it is already May! Even with the warm weather and lure of the great outdoors, there was still a great turn out at our meeting.

bobsredridebruceshermanhawkstrioleatherseatsrogerstristroysbodies

Bob and Troy kept the automotive category alive with their builds. Bruce and his armor, which included a car with real leather seats! Roger brought a pair of Fokker Triplanes. My current NMF projects and Al with a sneak peek at a F-80 being build for a FSM review. Until next month…See YA!

April 2009 Highlights

The weather that greeted us on the day of our monthly meeting was a late April Fools joke. It started off with SNOW! but quickly changed over to rain. We had a large group at Friar Tuck’s before the meeting for dinner. Our favorite waitress Heather took real good care of us as usual. The role call at the meeting was Troy, Bob, Doc, Al, Roger, Pete, Tom, Bruce and Gerald. All subjects were covered with the exception of ships and figures, though Troy’s Creepy T had a rather large skull on it! See you in MAY!

March 2009 Highlights

Our March meeting fell right after the IPMS Region 5

Al describes the Pacific Coast Fiat build.

Convention in Madison, Wisconsin. Our own Bruce Williams and Bob Kremer took home trophies. Bruce brought some of his award winning models for everyone to get a chance at a closer inspection. Al brought some of his lair of Me-109s as well as a recent review project for FSM. Roger brought some boxcars he is working on for a client. Doc also showed a recent review project as well as an upcoming review build for FSM. Zack brought in a painting of a P-47 and the story behind the painting. It was very interesting and worth IMHO alone worth attending the meeting. Tom brought an American LaFrance fire engine that he is building which will feature some unique touches.

February 2009 Highlights

davidsx15This was a quite month, the weather on the evening of our meeting was threatening to turn nasty, so most of the saner members stayed closer to home. There were several of us who were suffering from Cabin Fever so bad we’d have taken dog sleds to get to the meeting. We had a good size group an dinner beforehand, then we trekked over to the hobby shop for our meeting. I brought a stack of new releases for folks to peek at, David brought a paper X-15 model he had just recently completed. Pete brought a couple of unique resin car bodies and Bob had several kits and magazines to share. Tom D. had a WIP as did Roger. Roger has a lot of brass, in this case it was a brass locomotive he is building for a customer.

January 2009 Highlights

Not our largest attendance for a special meeting it was still well attended and the food was great! The weather was cooperative which is something always a factor this time of year.
capturedp47tomsraiderBruce brought a Tamiya 1:48 P-47 Thunderbolt that bore the markings of one captured by the Germans. A really nice and different sight. Tom brought his recently completed Accurate Miniatures 1:48 B-25 “Doolittle’s Raider”, it too was very impressive. Roger brought a work in progress of a section of a building his is creating for a customer…the office section complete with external and internal lighting.

Emma is caught napping during her duties as Cat at Arms. She was behaved and wasn’t banned from the meeting for closely investigating the models first pawed.

Our February meeting will be back at Hobby Town USA in Oshkosh at its normal time. Everyone is looking forward to the IPMS Region 5 Convention in March, which is being held nearby in Madison, Wisconsin. A large contingent from our group is planning on attending.

For those who missed this meeting, you were missed. We’re looking forward to hosting the crew here again soon for another special banquet!
