Wishing You A Very Merry Christmas!

by Gerald Voigt
December 23rd, 2011

When the calendar page changes over from November to December it signals several things. The year is in its last month, the beginning of the first day of winter, Christmas and New Year’s eve. The beginning of winter for some like those of us in the Northern Hemisphere means colder temperatures and snow. It also gives us the shortest day of the year, which is somewhat depressing as the amount of daylight becomes less and less. But once the first day of winter arrives, that trend begins to reverse itself and that is something to look forward to.

Christmas for some has no meaning, in fact those who are not believers in Christ dread this time of year. To those, please accept the wish of a Merry Christmas in the spirit for which it is given…to have a great and enjoyable day! Hopefully it is one filled with happiness and cheer, shared with family and friends!

For those reading this and serving in military service as well as those who are working to serve and protect others, an added humble Thank You! Your sacrifices are worthwhile, without them this holiday season would not be the same and for some it provides the greatest of gifts, more than most can fathom.

The real gift of Christmas is the love and the blessings of family and friends, not the stack of presents under the tree. Today so many use the number and value of items given as gifts as their barometer of what makes for a great Christmas, they are missing the real purpose and meaning of the day.

Something small that we have been able to give care to that has brought us and others a great feeling of happiness and joy…Chippy. Her story and life with us has touched not only us but others as well. She brings a bit of laughter and joy to an otherwise stressful day. She has become a part of many peoples lives. Her life has a purpose, it might just be that daily dose of cuteness but for others she serves as a reminder of home while they serve this nation in military service far away in distant lands and seas. Joy and Happiness are priceless gifts.

Once again, please accept Chippy’s as well as my own wish to you and your family for a Very Merry Christmas!

T.O. Library

by Gerald Voigt
December 12th, 2011

Coming next on The Plastic Scale Modeling Hour we open up the “T.O. Library” During these segments we will review books, magazines, websites and other scale modeling reference resources and topics scale modelers will find inspiring as well as informative.  As far as featured guests, as part of this segment I’ll invite authors, publishers, Veterans, aviators and others behind or supporting these topics.

This week we take a look back at what it was like to fly the F-105 Thunderchief and F-4 Phantom II during the Vietnam War. Who better to share such insights than a pilot who flew both during the war. Join me and my very special guest Ed Rasimus on Thursday, December 15th at 7:00 PM Eastern.

Ed flew more than 250 combat mission in the F-105 Thunderchief and F-4 Phantom II during the Vietnam Conflict earning the Distinguished Flying Cross five times and numerous Air Medals. He has authored books including “When Thunder Rolled” and “Palace Cobra”. As our guest he will talk about those experiences and I’m sure we as modelers will glean some useful tidbits of information as well as inspiration for our F-105 and F-4 scale modeling projects.

Dust off your USAF F-105 and F-4 scale models, snap a picture and TUNE IN to find out how you can qualify to win something special as part of our next Door Prize Giveaway!

Check out Ed’s blog which he calls Thunder Tails.

I am of the generation which only got to see F-105′s at base open houses and air shows. By the time I was beginning my military career the F-105 was winding down its. One summer I got to experience some Low Flying Thunder.

Flight of the Intruder A-6E Door Prize

by Gerald Voigt
December 8th, 2011

Model Retailer Magazine’s editor Hal Miller was kind enough to donate a Revell 1:48 A-6E Intruder as a door prize for The Plastic Scale Modeling Hour as part of his appearance on the show November 28th. We asked listeners to respond to three questions by emailing their answers to qualify for the door prize drawing.  We had a lot of responses but we could only pick one.

With the names in the hat of those who responded with the correct three answers Chippy picked Kris Pete of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio as our Door Prize Giveaway Winner! Congratulations Pete!
