Geography Its Important To Our Hobby Shops

by Gerald Voigt
March 27th, 2011

I’ve been sharing from time to time some of the causes for the demise of the Local Hobby Shops. This article I wrote was recently published by Model Retailer, a trade magazine for those in the hobby retailing business. In it I discuss how businesses have to be aware of their Geographical Footprint.

Clear Track Ahead!

by Gerald Voigt
March 8th, 2011

My time of late at the modeling bench has been minimal I’m sad to report, but for good reasons.  I’m continuing to work on my third new tool design as well as other marketing and branding projects for Xuron Corp. Besides the new tool we’re working to give Xuron a fresh look in both their advertising and product packaging. Also in the works a launch into another hobby realm…Robotics!

Sales for both the 2175ET Pro Sprue Cutter and the NEW 9180ET Professional Photo Etch Scissor have really taken off worldwide. One of my fellow IPMS Chapter members reports he’s found another great use for the 9180ET Pro PE Scissors…trimming decals! They are that sharp and precise!

Time to get back into the studio, I’ve got more images and videos to shoot! Keep an eye here and the soon to be launched Xuron Corp Youtube Station for new product videos.

Modeling is made easier when you use Xuron’s tools.

So You Want To Start Your Own Scale Modeling Website?

Well if you do and are really serious about it…do it right! Might I suggest taking advantage of this Special Offer from Affordable Business Hosting.

Accurate Miniatures Pulls Plug

Accurate Miniature hasn’t been heard from in some time and now it appears they won’t be seen anymore either. Their website is now gone and the domain is available. This pretty much puts an end to the company. I imagine what was left of their current inventory will begin to leak out into the market, but rest assured prices for AM kits will start to rise until alternatives are available on the market or another company starts repopping their molds.

Historical Flight Foundations DC-7

The Historic Aviation Foundations DC-7 will be in New York for a couple weeks for a series of photography sessions.  So if you see the Eastern Airlines livery four engined propeller driven airliner over the city and surrounding area…its lights action camera time!

Wingscale B-25′s Meteor and B-17G

The first of Wingscale’s releases is the B-25 and as of today still no word on an exact release date to its dealers. Wingscale’s owner is working hard to bring the first release to market as close to perfect as he can. This extra attention to detail is causing the delay in the planned release of the B-25s. So too does it push back the release date for the Meteor and B-17. As soon as I hear they are on their way to Sprue Brothers I will post a message to that effect. Until then…patience Grasshopper.

Trumpeter Adds New US Distributor

by Gerald Voigt
February 18th, 2011

Trumpeter announced that they have added a second distributor to the US market…Stevens International is now joined by MMD/Squadron.

http://www.modelretailer.com/en/The%20Industry/Industry%20News/2011/02/TrumpeterMMD.aspx

I’m not sure what Trumpeter was thinking in with this move. If Trumpeter wanted greater penetration in the US market they should consider looking at adjusting their MSRPs to make their kits more affordable and thus gaining market share. This is going to be interesting to watch…will this decision benefit Trumpeter or will it cause MMD to implode? In the darkness lurks doom, question is how fast will it get dark? Or will it be the light at the end of the tunnel for all involved? One thing is probably for certain…this will have NO impact on kit pricing!!!
