Or as it is become affectionately know…SLOSHKOSH! The grounds are noticeably bare of aircraft as much of the field isn’t suitable for parking aircraft unless they’re float planes. But today was a dry day and it helped a lot at improving the field conditions. Another thing one might note as they make the commute onto the grounds are the normally vacant parking lots at closed businesses full of RVs which too must seek alternate accommodations due to sloshe conditions.
Today marked the arrival of N836D otherwise know as the Historical Flight Foundation’s DC-7B. This was an awesome sight to see! I had the opportunity to assist the crew with a few minor chores…emptying the trash, wiping down the vast amounts of oil ooze and help spot it into is temporary home while on display.
Most of you are familiar with the story and old saying “God Is My Copilot” well I’ve always believed that to be true and today, as I sat in the left seat of N836D who else would make a better copilot than Jeff Skiles! Today I met Jeff for the first time and anytime one can meet a hero, be sure to shake their hand and give them the accolades they desire!
I spent most of today around the DC-7B but I managed to snap a few pics of other aircraft as well. The day passed by all too quickly and we headed for the museum to attend the dedication and reception ceremony for Little Wings-Big Dreams.
There was a large contingent from AMA who was the major exhibit supporter. But plastics were well represented!
Such as this wall display of early model plastic kit box tops. This had a lot of people deep in thought about their youth!

Tomorrow is the official first day of AirVenture. I will be roaming the grounds in search of images to capture, people to met and interview and immerse myself completely into aviation.

Stay tuned for more AirVenture!
