Tool Tip: Sanding

One of the most challenging tasks during the course of building a scale model comes from sanding inside tight places. Flex-i-File solves one such problem as I illustrate here. Sanding the inside of a complex tubular frame work such as that on this Bell 47 helicopter tail boom. I slip the sanding band through each of the triangular openings then hook it back up to the frame to sand.

My first thought when glancing at your newest Squawkbox was “I have files for this.” But you made a good case with the Bell kit, and since I have a Revell 47 around here which is past due for building, I will visit the local hobby shop and purchase or order the tool you descibed. Nice work! :)

I second all you say about sanding. Being a little creative and having about half a dozen ways to sand, including the Flex-I-File you mention, makes my model building so much less complicated.
I also think about sandpaper much as I think about paint brushes. Good quality, brand name sanding tools are worth the small, extra expense.
Thanks for all your good work.
