Xuron’s NEW Pro PE Cutter-Sneak Peek
By
Xuron Corp and I have teamed up to design and produce yet another Professional Series of tools for scale modeling enthusiasts. First of this series was the 2175ET Professional Sprue Cutter. As a companion to that we wanted a tool that could do for Photo Etched what the 2175ET did for styrene sprues. Well, in my hand I am holding a pre-production sample of the new Xuron Professional PE Cutter!
Like the 2175ET Pro Sprue Cutter, it fits comfortably in the hand which provides greater stability. This is critical when a tool to remove those ever so small and delicate parts found on PE frets. The sharp precision cutter allows it to carefully reach in between the tightly packed parts in order to remove them without damaging them or the surrounding pieces.
As soon as part/stock numbers and pricing is made available I will pass that information on. If you liked the 2175ET Pro Sprue Cutter, you’re gonna love Xuron’s Professional PE Cutter too!
Our goal is to have this new product available for retailers in the first quarter of 2010, so it should be coming soon to your favorite hobby retailer! As soon as I have word is has begun shipping to distributors/retailers I’ll pass that along too.
Doesn’t Xuron already make a PE cutter? I think I have one.
Yes they do, The 440 PET High Precision Scissor. Like the original Sprue Cutter the 410T, I wanted to take a good product and make it better. Better for those modelers with advancing skill set who demand more from their tools. Such as greater precision and a tool that fits us old timers with oak stumps for fingers who prefer an larger and more ergonomic handle. Like anything else, everything evolves and improves…let me get back to my collection of 8-Track tapes, trying to copy them onto CDs. ;o)
If they are 1/2 as good as the sprue cutters count me in for a set.
Thanks,
John
PS I heard some where that 8 Tracks are supposed to be making a come back lol….
Gerald:
I was sent a sample of the Testor Model Master Sprue Cutter which is, as you know, are Xuron tools repackaged under the MM logo. So my cutter is the 410T (don’t know the price difference, if any, between Xuron and MM). I’m glad to see a new tool to replace the scissor, which is nice for medium to large PE parts, but can be very tricky to use with the small stuff.
My question is, having been told not to use my sprue cutter for any other purpose, I’m wondering what makes this particular tool ideal for cutting parts from sprues? And having been sent both the flat-sided cutter and the very similar MM/Xuron cutter with the slightly forward-canted jaws, I’m confused which is used for what purpose. Obviously, the flat-sided tool is for cutting parts from sprues, but what of the other one? I’ve long ago lost the packaging, and I don’t think it told much anyway.
Thanks for the always useful info,
Tom
The 410T and 420T (angled cutter) do essentially the same thing, the angled one allows greater access (reach) to snip off parts. One of the biggest differences between the 410 series and the 2175ET is jaw length, taper and width.
