After Action Report: IPMS National Convention Pt III

me163duceThe models! What can you say they were plenty of them and they all were fantastic. It was apparent from the moment the models started being laid on the tables that this was going to be a really good year.

John Vojtech put out his usual stunning model, an F-15 Eagle that captured people’s attention by its blinking lights. Unfortunately, it was in a spot that was somewhat dark, which helped the lighting effect but did little to allow anyone to easily see the details without a flashlight.

Note to future hosts: Sell flashlights, it would be a great way to raise a few bucks!

ac119I know more about this model will be forthcoming in the various modeling magazines, I see already that it is featured in the next issue of Finescale Modeler. John Vojtech will be providing me copies of his images to use in my promotional effort of SnJ Spray Metal, which he used extensively on his F-15′s NMF parts.

Many of this years entries showed a lot of “life.” I like models that tell a story or capture a moment in time. Some models just don’t move the observer…they’re just another XFC-123HYJK whatever. Those who took the extra time to give their model a little life really captured the attention of not only the judges but the public as well.

I encourage everyone to visit the 2009 Nationals website to see all of the pictures. It is well worth the time to do so. My congratulations to everyone who had the courage to enter, I hope to do so in Phoenix or Omaha which ever I can be ready in time for.

Thanks again to the team at IPMS/Eddie Rickenbacker for their efforts and delivering a FANTASTIC EVENT! As well as all of those who took home trophies…for those who didn’t, just being there was a rewarding experience too! At least is was for me, all I got to do is just look and drool. ;0)
