Breaking News! First Export F-22 Raptor
ByIt was bound to happen! A story has come to light about a secret Pentagon project that is allowing the exportation of an operational F-22 Raptor. Japan is about to receive the first and only Lockheed Martin F-22EJ (Export Japan) Raptor Demonstrator. Essentially a modified USAF F-22A which will be loaned to the JSDAF to serve two roles. First as a tactical trainer to prepare JSDAF test pilots to fly Mitsubishi’s ATD-X Stealth Fighter which is expected to perform much like the F-22. Sources also tell us that this unique deal is due to a recent agreement between Mitsubishi and Lockheed as part of a program to develop a stealth bomber version of the F-22.
Pentagon sources confirm that this F-22 does not include the classified sensitive electronics that give the Raptor its edge in combat. These components have been replaced with equipment being tested for Japan’s ATD-X Stealth Fighter program. Outwardly, this F-22 is striking with its unique custom paint scheme. There is no doubt that this Raptor will garner a lot of attention flying in the sky above Japan. We’re expecting to see it perform at airshows thoughout Japan and neighboring allied countries.

This concept came to me the instant I opened the newly released Academy 1:48 F-22 Raptor. Keeping with my What-If theme when I build some models this one just had to be built this way. The kit was built OOB with the exception of the addition of Legends Cockpit set. I am also preparing to install Cross Delta’s nozzle surfaces. I’m about 70% through the build, but far enough along to share what I have accomplished.
This project has also served as the test bed for a new product I am developing called….Raptor Sheen. A product that you can mix with an enamel paint to get that metallic sheen seen on the Raptor as discussed in previous posts this blog.
The paint scheme was started by applying the gray enamel paint mixed with Raptor Sheen over the entire model. Once cured I used Silly Putty to layout the pattern for the blue. The blue was Testor’s Insignia Flat Blue. An old bottle I purchase while still in the USAF…that was more than 18 years ago! A little hard to stir at first but it mixed well with the Raptor Sheen and spray excellently.
I’ll be posting more as progress continues on this F-22EJ Raptor project.
This is a work of fiction. But who knows what the future holds.

When did Boeing start building F-22s?
LOL You’re right, I’d better change that…too much glue not enough sleep! LOL You were the only one to catch that…at least the only one to post a comment or email one to me.
Looking good! The back story really adds to the great-looking raptor model.
Boeing, in fact, is a major subcontractor for the F-22, fabricating significant wing and fuselage components.
